Story

Keep Team BOAT afloat

in the Lake Argyle Swim 2014!

STOP THE PRESS: We won!  We managed to win our section the duo 20km race, we haven't had official notification but we believe we also broke the course record.  We would like to say how grateful we are for all the support we received from friends, family and acquaintances and shout out a huge THANKYOU to everyone that has donated.  We're going to keep the donation page open for a little longer just to see if we can get a little closer to our target.

Thankyou again - from Bryannon, The Odgers, Adrian and Tom

Team Boat is a team of mature and slightly mad swimmers taking on the challenging Lake Argyle Swim in May this year to raise money for Indigenous Community Volunteers (ICV). ICV is an amazing community development organisation working nationally with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  We work in some of the remotest parts of Australia, including the Kimberley region where we will be competing.  We want our swim to raise some much needed funds to make more ICV projects possible.

The Lake Argyle Swim is a great opportunity for good friends to come together, a reason for us to stay motivated at training, and more importantly it's a fantastic way to support Indigenous communities in need. Each ICV project costs on average $1200 to complete, so we're hoping to raise enough funds for at least 5 projects currently waiting for the green light to go ahead.

Please support us and help us reach out target of $6000.00

About Team BOAT

Our team members are Bryannon Ruskin, Hayley and James Odgers, Adrian Tonkin and Tom Layton. We compete at Master events and open water swims around Australia.  We are super excited about being able to compete together at Lake Argyle.  It's a daunting 20km swim, but we've got a great team and support crew,so we're keen to see how well we can do.

We've chosen a very challenging competition option, the duo 20km race. Adrian and Bryannon are doing the swimming and they will both be fresh from competing at National Titles in QLD, so their fitness will be red hot.  Hayley and James will look after them from the support boat and Tom, in his kayak, will guide the swimmers through to the finish line.

About Indigenous Community Volunteers (ICV)

ICV is a registered charity and non-profit organisation helping create a brighter future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  ICV is not about hand-outs or welfare, but about practical long-term solutions to the many challenges Indigenous Australians face.  ICV works in partnership with people to develop their capacity to take responsibility for their own futures.  This means building on local strenghts and knowledge, and working on projects that have been identified as part of a community's own vision for its future.  ICV provides skills and resources not normally available to them through the expertise and dedication of volunteers from all walks of life, from child care to construction, medicine to manufacturing, and gardening to grant-writing.

To support us simply click on the donation button on this page.  All donations are tax deductible.

Thank you for keeping Team BOAT afloat and for making dreams come true for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We also hope you might take the opportunity to learn more about ICV's work and consider becoming a regular donor yourself.  If you care as deeply as we do about helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, then please tell your friends and family about ICV too.
